Kathy

Hello,

I'm delighted to introduce myself as SNIP's newest Information and Advocacy Worker. I'm the parent of two children who both have complex health needs; Ross has severe brittle asthma, and Lauren has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, visual impairment and learning difficulties. I therefore feel I can really empathise with parents utilising SNIP, having an understanding of the emotional rollercoaster and challenges we as families have to endure. My ultimate aim is to support other families through this journey in my new role as Information and Advocacy Worker.

Prior to having my children I was a registered nurse, working on medical wards and with children and adults with learning disabilities, and latterly in Cardiology.
Following diagnosis of Lauren's cerebral palsy and being her principal carer, I returned to higher education in 2005 and completed an HNC in Early Years Childcare and Education which subsequently led me to undertake further study at Napier University where I'm currently attempting to finish my BSc in Health Science.
I enjoy working with people and look forward to working closely with families, I'm particularly interested in developing my advocacy skills so I can meet the needs of the children and families I work with in a more holistic manner.

In my spare time I enjoying camping however, our present climate does not provide me with enough opportunities to fulfil this pursuit, which leaves me with a burning need to have explore foreign places when the time and budget allows.
